Freeport Sewer District Asks Residents to Participate in Income Survey 

Residents: Watch your mailbox for the survey, which will be in an envelope from Freeport Sewer District, in the coming weeks. 

Responses critical to requalifying for federal infrastructure funding! The Freeport Sewer District has launched a confidential household income survey to requalify for federal infrastructure funding following changes in the town's median household income reflected in the 2020 U.S. Census. The survey will determine eligibility for grants and low-interest loans to support needed upgrades and rehabilitation of aging wastewater facilities while reducing the financial burden on ratepayers.

Town Offices will be closed on Monday, February 16th, in observance of Presidents Day.

In order to prevent damage, each spring many Town roads are posted, limiting heavy loads from traveling along specified Town roads.

Posted roads are in effect starting February 23, 2026.

Dependent on weather and road conditions, permits may be issued allowing heavy vehicles to travel along these roads.

Freeport residents still have access to the silver bullet container on West Street, but the best recycling method is at the Transfer Station compactor. While station hours are more limited than the 24/7 access to the silver bullet, the environmental and financial efficiency of the single sort compactor process cannot be topped. It's open early, too: 7:00AM Wed-Sat, and closing at 4:00PM.Check out the Town's recycling efforts

Town Clerk's Office Hours of Operation: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 7:30am - 5:00pm Tuesday 7:30am - 6:00pm The office will be CLOSED from 2:00pm - 2:30pm each day for lunch. 

Due to staffing needs, this schedule will likely be in effect until April.

Cousins River Bridge - Route 1 Traffic Restriction Notice 10/6/25 to 5/15/26 

10/31/25 UPDATE ~ PLEASE NOTE: This project is part of a partnership between the Town of Yarmouth and Maine DOT. Freeport has no authority over traffic signals or any other component of the project.

CPM Constructors will be limiting traffic on US Rt. 1 to one lane of alternating traffic between 10/6/25 and 5/15/26. Flaggers or temporary traffic signals will be used to navigate traffic through the job site. I-295 mainline traffic is not expected to be affected by this operation. CPM Constructors will be replacing the existing US Route 1 Cousins River Bridge while one-lane of alternating traffic will be maintained on the newly constructed phase 1 bridge. 

Please plan accordingly. 

Project Location: MeDOT Bridge No. 2183 – The new bridge will be constructed over the Cousins River on Route 1 located on the Yarmouth-Freeport town line.

From 4-5PM on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month, the community is welcome to stop by 30 Main Street and join Town Manager Sophie Wilson and Assistant Town Manager Caroline Pelletier to talk about issues important to you or provide feedback on Town operations and governing process. Visitors will be welcomed on a first come first served basis.
